Offering Online Teletherapy

All counseling appointments are held virtually, also called Teletherapy on Online Counseling. It's as simple as it sounds. Online Counseling is similar to a traditional counseling appointment, except held from the privacy and comfort of your own home or office. At a scheduled time, you and your counselor will meet virtually. By connecting through doxy.me, a confidential, HIPAA compliant video application, you will be able to receive the same professional and confidential treatment as if you were seeing your provider in person.

With doxy.me, you can use your computer, tablet, mobile phone, or any device that has a webcam and microphone. No downloads, no apps required, and it's free. If you have ever used Skype or FaceTime on your computer or your iPhone, you have used the same type of technology that teletherapy uses. However, Counseling Boutique now uses a HIPAA-compliant version through Doxy.me. All data is encrypted, your sessions are anonymous, and none of your information is stored. It adheres to HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR data privacy requirements.

Appointments are the same length as in a traditional counseling setting (typically 45 min - 60 min)  and are scheduled in the same way.

Advantages to Online Therapy

  • Travel Costs and Time Commitments. You can have your counseling sessions from literally anywhere you feel comfortable.

  • Online Counseling eliminates the usual requirement of spending time and money on traveling to the counselor’s office.

  • Comfort and Convenience:  You can make yourself comfortable with a cup of tea, music, or anything else that contributes to your well-being from the comfort of your own home or office: no traffic, no waiting room, no inconvenience, and flexible counseling times.

Disadvantages to Online Counseling

  • Some insurance policies do not cover online therapy.

  • A therapist cannot respond to crises. Crises are directed to seek attention from local emergency room

  • Online therapy is not appropriate for people with complicated or detailed problems; the scope of help provided can be limited.

  • Online counseling eliminates geographic restraints.  Therapists can treat clients from anywhere, and many states have different licensing requirements and treatment guidelines.

Emergencies

By nature, online counseling is not designed to handle emergency and crisis counseling.  If your crisis needs immediate attention, proceed to the nearest hospital or emergency room or call 911
